James R. Carlson, M.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Carlson is one of Southern Arizona’s most highly trained specialists in his field. His education, training, and extensive experience give him special expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders of the ear, nose and throat. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Boston University with Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. Dr. Carlson also holds an M.B.A. in Health Care Management from University of Arizona Karl Eller School of Business.
Prior to opening his own practice, Dr. Carlson was Director of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) at the Thomas-Davis Medical Center in Tucson, where he diagnosed and managed treatment plans for more than 30,000 patients in 7 years.
In 2001, he founded Carlson Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates. Throughout his medical career, he has constantly sought out and completed medical courses to keep current with the latest techniques, equipment, and treatments including Care of the Professional Voice at the Julliard School and advanced ear surgery at the House Ear Institute. While with the University of Connecticut’s Division of Otolaryngology, he received three prestigious research grants focusing on his medical specialty and published several important papers in connection with his research.
He currently serves as Attending Surgeon at Northwest Medical Center in Oro Valley, University Medical Center and Camp Lowell Surgery Center.
Dr. Carlson currently accepts patients with concerns related to the ear, nose and throat. He is particularly interested in balance/vestibular disorders and treatment.
